Original Photos By Svet: Patriarch Kirill…

Patriarch Kirill is the person with the white covering on his head. (Covering called -Koukoulion) So who is Patriarch Kirill? – Patriarch Kirill I, or Cyril I (Russian: Кирилл, Патриарх Московский и всея Руси), (secular name Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev (Russian: Владимир Михайлович Гундяев); born November 1946) is a Russian Orthodox bishop who has been Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus and Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church since 1 February 2009.

Prior to becoming Patriarch, Kirill was Archbishop (later Metropolitan) of Smolensk and Kaliningrad beginning on 26 December 1984; and also Chairman of the Orthodox Church’s Department for External Church Relations and a permanent member of the Holy Synod beginning in November 1989.

Svetlana was walking to work and the church that you see in the pictures is nearby. She noticed that there was a lot of activity and Svet is “curious like a cat” as we say in America…

Svet got to experience a rare moment and she was able to capture the Patriarch Kirill on film. She also has a short video and when she gets home maybe we can do something with that video.

Svet was so excited that she emailed these pictures from work and I for one am proud to post these fantastic pictures of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church by Svetlana!

A Day of Mourning in Russia!

Svetlana travels this Metro almost everyday of her life and today she captured on film a Moscow in mourning.
One of the little known facts about this Metro bombing was that most of the victims are young adults suffering from massive internal injuries. That is because this was also known as the University line. (At least that is what I call it.) Students are traveling to the Moscow University to attend classes…
The massive internal injuries where caused in part by the fact that the explosives were designed on purpose to have excess shrapnel in them. The plastic explosive was embedded with nails, nuts, bolts and other small metal objects. Then when the explosion goes off it sends hundreds of projectiles in all directions to maximize injuries and death…
The dead and injured include students from around the world also. That information will be brought out later in time.

I Wanna Ride!

Above – A Mom getting a ticket for her child to ride, some rides!

Above – A better look at the whole place!

Above and Below – I wanna ride!

I love it when I come upon places like this for kids. I was walking to the store to get groceries and took a different way to the store. That is when I came upon this wonderful little amusement area for kids. This is a commercial establishment of course, but I have always loved bright and colorful things!

It makes me wish to be a kid again for just an hour and ride that train…

Moscow Russia Through Svetlana’s Eyes!

Svet once again was chasing everyone around with her camera:

Photo Below – We make the dogs pay to ride the train in Moscow! :) Well not really, but the dogs are on the trains all the time… But this one looks as though he is use to getting a treat from the cashier!

Photo Below – A monk collecting money for his monastery and three musicians collecting money for themselves! I wonder who collected the most money?

Photo Below – This is one of the most common and best ways to buy fruit and veggies in Moscow, Russia!

Photo Below – If you are not interested in fruit then how about some flowers! You can always find fresh cut flowers everywhere in Moscow Russia…

That is it for today. You just saw a little more of Russia – come back and check because we are always posting original pictures of Russia right here on the Russian Photo Blog!

31 December: Ded Moroz in Metro!

As all you know in Russia we don’t have Santa Clause who maybe brings gifts to your kids at the Christmas. In Russia we have Grandfather Frost who puts gifts for our kids under Fir Trees. You can read more about our Russian New Year traditions here (Svet Sunday: New Year and Christmas in Russia!). But today I want you to show some pictures of Grandfather Frost (Ded Moroz) whom we met at metro at 31 of December.

It looks like he is going to tell “S Novym Godom!” (Happy New Year) to kids who celebrate New Year Ave in a hiking trip with their parents.
